Tin can finch feeder

What you will need:

Any type of tin can (I used a can of black beans) with the lid removed so that there are no sharp edges (I have a hand crank can opener that does this). Remove label and discard the top of the can which you cut off.

Two size canning jar lids (just the inner disc, no rings needed). I used one regular size lid that fits the empty can for the lid and one wide-mouth lid that is larger than the can for the perch.

Twine
Epoxy
Hammer
Nail
Old Fashioned Can Opener (the kind that pokes a triangle shaped hole)

Use an old fashioned can opener to make holes around the bottom of the can to allow seeds to come out. Use a hammer and nail to punch a hole in the center of the bottom of the can. Use the hammer and nail to punch a hole in the center of canning jar lids. Use the epoxy to attach the larger canning jar lid to the bottom of the can. Be sure to line up the holes.

I added a decorative vintage seed packet label to mine that I found on
flcker. I printed the image, laminated it and attached it to the can with clear packing tape.

Next, take a length of twine, tie a knot in one end and thread the other up through the bottom of the can and then through the small canning jar lid.

Fill with your choice of finch seed and hang outside.
