Be My Guest!

I love having house guests. It gives me
the perfect excuse to do so many things I adore: cooking, baking,
cleaning, shopping, planning, buying fresh flowers, etc., etc. Here
are a few of the things I like to do to make my guest feel
welcome.
Homemade treats:I think it's nice to bake a little something if I
can for our guests. It depends on the time of year and what I have
on hand. Sometimes I'll bake a pie or whip up some cupcakes. And
muffins are always a good choice. They are good for breakfast or a
snack and they travel well on picnics (picnicking is another thing
its fun to do sometimes with company). This time I baked blue berry
muffins using
Martha Dahling's
recipeand wild blue berries given to me one of
our last house guest, my good friend Holly.
Make the guest room feel like a Bed & Breakfast: Shawn and I
love to stay in bed and breakfasts when we travel. They feel so
much more homey and cozy than some average chain hotel. In my guest
room I like to do small things that I hope portray the same
feeling. Travel sized essentials look cute displayed in a vintage
tea cup-a trick I learned from my Aunt Mary Jane. A homemade quilt
at the foot of the bed is a nice touch. It looks cozy and inviting
and even in the summer here in the mountains, we occasionally have
some cool night air. I also like to make my guest towels look
attractive. I typically tie a satin ribbon around them, as
pictured, but here are some other ideas for fun towel folds. And fresh flowers are always a nice
touch.
I think doing a few extra little things can make your home feel
even more welcoming. Like I said, I love having house guests and I
always do everything I can to make my guests feel welcome in our
home.
